Capital City Band of TSC and TSC Jazz Band provide local musicians the opportunity to play together and to perform for the community. See below for detailed information about each band.
Capital City Band of TSC
Founded in 1924, and re-formed in 1966 as the “Tallahassee Community Band,” Capital City Band has been associated with Tallahassee State College since 1970. Known as “Capital City Band of TSC,” the Band performs a fall and a spring concert in TSC’s Turner Auditorium, and regularly performs throughout the year in and around the community including at Springtime Tallahassee, at Tallahassee’s Winter Festival, at Westminster Oaks’ Fourth of July Celebration, at the Tallahassee Senior Center, and at TSC’s Fall and Spring commencement ceremonies held in the Donald L Tucker Civic Center.
Capital City Band of Tallahassee State College, located in Tallahassee, Florida, is open to TSC students as a student activity and is also open to community members, including students, aged 18 and older, of other institutions. While an audition is not required to join, any person wishing to join should be able to read music and should be able to play a wind instrument, or percussion, at an adequate level of proficiency. In most cases, band members must provide their own instruments. Interested persons who are willing to commit to faithfully participating in rehearsals and concerts are encouraged to contact the Director.
Capital City Band of TSC rehearses Monday evenings from 7 PM – 9 PM, in Room CH 165, Communications and Humanities building, on the campus of Tallahassee State College, 444 Appleyard Dr., Tallahassee, FL 32304.

Tallahassee State College Jazz Band
Tallahassee State College Jazz Band (“TSC Jazz Band”) serves as an outlet for instrumentalists to learn, and to perform, a wide variety of stage band music from traditional big band to more modern arrangements of blues, swing, light rock, Latin, and pop music, all while bringing joy to the community and to its members through music.
TSC Jazz Band performs a fall and a spring concert in TSC’s Turner Auditorium in addition to performing annually at Tallahassee Museum’s Jazz and Blues Festival, Westminster Oaks Retirement Community, the Grove at Canopy, and every third year or so for “Sunday at Four: January Jazz,” sponsored Arts for the Community at Thomas University (“ACTU”). Past appearances at a variety of venues and festivals throughout the greater Tallahassee area include: Quincy Porchfest, Falls Chase Balloon Rally, Old Time Havana Days, and more. The Band has also performed for special groups, including TSC Foundation, TSC Alumni Association, Friends of the Library, and American Cancer Society. A sister band to Capital City Band, TSC Jazz Band was for a time also known as Capital City Jazz Band.
TSC Jazz Band is comprised of Tallahassee State College students, community members, and students aged 18 and older of other institutions. Due to instrumentation limitations, an audition may be required for this ensemble. Band members must have the ability to read music and the ability to play their instruments at a proficient level. In most cases, band members must provide their own instruments. While band was in the past offered as a course which could be taken for credit, band has for some years been considered an activity on campus.
