The Bands and How to Join

Capital City Band of TCC and TCC Jazz Band provide local musicians the opportunity to play together and to perform for the community. See below for detailed information about each band.

Founded in 1924 and re-formed as the “Tallahassee Community Band” in 1966, the Capital City Band of TCC has been associated with Tallahassee Community College since 1971 (for fifty years!). Capital City Band of TCC performs a fall and a spring concert in TCC’s Turner Auditorium and regularly performs throughout the year in and around the community, including at Springtime Tallahassee, Tallahassee’s Winter Festival, Westminster Oaks’ Fourth of July Celebration, and at the Tallahassee Senior Center.

Capital City Band of TCC is open to TCC students as a student activity, to TCC faculty and staff, and is also open to students (aged 18 and older) and faculty/staff of other institutions, as well as to community members.  An audition is not required to join, but any person wishing to join should be able to read music and should be able to play their instrument at an adequate level of proficiency. In most cases, band members must provide their own instruments.

Capital City Band of TCC rehearses Monday evenings from 7 PM – 9 PM, in Room CH 165, Communications and Humanities building, on the campus of Tallahassee Community College, 444 Appleyard Dr., Tallahassee, FL 32304. [New members are encouraged to join.]

Tallahassee Community College Jazz Band

TCC Jazz Band serves as an outlet for instrumentalists to learn and perform a wide variety of stage band music, from traditional big band to more modern arrangements of blues, swing, light rock, and pop music. TCC Jazz Band performs a fall and spring concert in TCC’s Turner Auditorium in addition to performing at a variety of venues and festivals throughout the greater Tallahassee area. Among others, the Band has performed at Tallahassee Museum’s Jazz and Blues Festival, Quincy Porchfest, Falls Chase Balloon Rally, and Old Time Havana Days. The Band has also performed for special groups, including the TCC Foundation, TCC Alumni Association, Friends of the Library, and the American Cancer Society.

TCC Jazz Band is open to TCC students as a student activity, to TCC faculty and staff, and is also open to students (aged 18 and older) and faculty/staff of other institutions, as well as to community members. Due to instrumentation limitations, an audition may be required for this group. Band members must have the ability to read music and a desire to have fun with music! In most cases, band members must provide their own instruments.

TCC Jazz Band rehearses Wednesday evenings from 7 PM – 9 PM, in Room CH 165, Communications and Humanities building, on the campus of Tallahassee Community College, 444 Appleyard Dr., Tallahassee, FL 32304. [Interested musicians are encouraged to inquire about joining the band.]
